A paraphrase of Charlie Chaplin's speech from the 1940 film The Dictator.
I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be a career politician. That’s not my business. I don’t want to manipulate or restrict anyone. I should like to help everyone regardless of skin color, religion, age, gender and nationality as a free citizen. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness - not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way.
Our knowledge has made us cynical. More than bureaucracy we need cybernetics and humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost. The public administration of finance and civil services should brought us closer together. The very nature of these things cries out for the goodness in free citizens - cries out for universal siblinghood - for the unity of us all. Now I see millions of despairing free citizens which are victims of a system. System, which still destroys lives of innocent free citizens.
I say - do not despair. The hate will pass, and career politicians die, and the power they took from the free citizens will return to the free citizens. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish. Free citizens! Don’t give yourselves to career politicians, who despise you, enslave you, who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel! Who drill you - diet you - treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder. Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men.
You, the free citizens have the power to create anything. The power to create happiness! You, the free citizens, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. Then - in the name of free democratic republic - let us use that power - let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world - a decent world that will give free citizens a chance to work - that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, career politicians have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfil that promise. They never will!
Career politicians free themselves by commission from public procurement and offices but they enslave the free citizens by taxes and bureaucracy! Now let us fight to fulfil that promise! Let us demand the immediate fulfillment of every one of their promises or the cancellation of every single one of their offices! Free citizens! In the name of free democratic republic, let us all unite!
